Scribbling

One of my students didn't work at all during journal time today so I said he needed to write during playtime at the end of the day (he'd already spit at someone earlier in the day, so he lost his playtime anyway).

During playtime: 

Student: I can't write anything.

Me: Yes you can, do your best.

Student: But I can't. 

Me: Why can't you?

Student: I accidentally scribbled all over the page with my journal marker.

Me: That's not an accident. You did it on purpose.

Student: But I still can't write because I might accidentally scribble again.

On the Radio!

-An announcement is made over the loudspeaker-

Student: Leah! I can't believe someone found a dinosaur bone!

Me: What?

Student: I wonder if it was big or small?

Me: What are you talking about?

Student: On the radio!

Me: Oh, okay. Ohh! You mean on the announcements. They said someone was missing a "white Android PHONE, not a dinosaur bone!"

The Quiet Game

During rest time I had spoken to a group of boys about talking and moved them away from each other a few times. A student who was trying to actually rest complained that once again the boys around him wouldn't stop talking.

Me: "Hey boys, let's play a game. We're going to see who can be quiet the longest. That means no sounds, not even laughing. If I hear anyone make a noise, they're out of the game."


One of the boys replies, "My mom loves that game!"


Me: "I bet she does."
